Z3012 .54 Hunt and Jennings "Rocket Ball” Cartridge
Description: Here is a nice .54 Hunt & Jennings "Rocket Ball” cartridge. This particular cartridge was patented by Walter Hunt on August 10, 1848 and was the predecessor to the Volcanic cartridges. I would say the length of this cartridge is in the medium to long range. This example does not have the patent date on the side. The base of the projectile is a little swollen which is common on these cartridges.
Measures: D .605” L .947”
Reference: Round Ball to Rimfire Vol. 3 No. 1045
