Z5899 Model 1855 Socket Bayonet
Description: Excavated M1855 socket bayonet for use on M1855, M1861, and M1863 rifled muskets. This was recovered from the Battle of Shepherdstown which took place on September 19-20, 1862. This was the last battle of Maryland 1862 campaign. This piece has considerable rust and was coated/sealed many years ago. It was recovered from the river. The bayonet tip has been bent into the shape of a hook. The metal is weak with cracks in the socket area.

Recovered: Battle of Shepherdstown, Virginia (Now West Virginia)
